Media in Flux: Shaping the Future of Journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey
South East European Network for Professionalization of Media presents the second cycle of research conducted in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey, analysing trends across several key areas of the media sector, including media studies enrolment, representation of women in media and editorial positions, the Media Freedom Index, public funding for media, and advertising revenue shares.
To understand the future of news media and the most significant trends in journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey, a study #FutureofMedia was conducted in 2024 as part of the regional Our Media initiative. The research, conducted in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey, analysed trends across several key areas of the media sector, including media studies enrolment, representation of women in media and editorial positions, the Media Freedom Index, public funding for media, and advertising revenue shares.
The second cycle of this research has now been completed and is based on findings from focus groups conducted across the region with citizens, influential individuals, and media professionals. The aim was to analyse the views and opinions of citizens and media professionals regarding the current situation and trends in media and democracy.
During the event, the results of the second cycle of the research will be presented, followed by a discussion on the future of journalism and media trends in the Western Balkans and Turkey, featuring researchers, media professionals, and representatives of media civil society organizations.
